LONDON (2 February 2016) 鈥� National Geographic Traveller (UK) reveals the top 10 hotspots for adventure travellers in 2016 in the March issue, and the magazine鈥檚 team of experts will be on hand to talk about these must-sees at London鈥檚 Destinations: The Holiday & Travel Show from 4-7 February.

This year鈥檚 adventure travel hotspots make for a diverse and exciting bucket list 鈥� from Iran to Sri Lanka, Colombia to Uzbekistan. A variety of incentives, from newly improved air connections to easing of FCO travel advice, means there鈥檚 never been a better time to visit.

Those looking to get the lowdown on 2016鈥檚 adventure travel hotspots should book into one of National Geographic Traveller鈥檚 Travel Geeks sessions at Destinations: The Holiday & Travel Show. Held at Olympia London this week, the National Geographic Traveller team will be on hand to help curate visitors鈥� next big adventure, give travel tips and share inspiring stories from the field.

Pat Riddell, National Geographic Traveller鈥檚 editor, said, 鈥淔or our Spirit of Adventure feature we canvassed the UK鈥檚 most pioneering adventure travel companies to find out where they鈥檒l be travelling to this year. And it鈥檚 clear they鈥檙e catering to a growing number of UK travellers who are hungry for places that are truly off the beaten track; destinations that allow them to be immersed in a wilderness environment, spot unusual wildlife, meet local communities and, if possible, learn something new.鈥�

1. Peru
Beyond the Inca Trail: a soon-to-launch direct flight means the wild north of this mountainous country is now more accessible to travellers.

2. Iran
Adventure tour operators are reporting spiraling demand for tours to a country that was for many years a no-go. Visit now to more easily explore Iran鈥檚 19 wondrous UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

3. Canada
New low-cost flights are putting such remote west coast destinations as the exotic Islands of Haida Gwaii on the map for adventure travellers on a budget.

4. Iceland
Join an expedition to learn survival skills, camping out amid the icy wilderness in the middle of the Langj枚kull Glacier 鈥� just one of a burgeoning number of high-octane new tours to Iceland this year.

5. The Stans
The recent relaxation of visa restrictions has helped boost interest in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan 鈥� all of which celebrate 25 years of independence from the Soviet Union this year.

6. Sri Lanka
Whale-watching, mountain hiking, beautiful beaches鈥� Since the civil war ended in 2009, the north of this lush green island is slowly but surely opening up to visitors.

7. Colombia
Fast becoming the go-to destination in South America for lovers of jungle treks and Indiana Jones-style lost cities; Teyuna (La Ciudad Perdida), for instance, is the 鈥榥ew Machu Picchu鈥� for savvy travellers.

8. Cuba
There鈥檚 more to this fast-changing island than vintage Cadillacs and cigars: something that the smarter adventure operators are helping travellers explore with a raft of new trips and tours.

9. Nepal
Having largely recovered from last year鈥檚 earthquake, Nepal is well and truly open for business, with many specialist tour operators due to return to the worst affected areas, including Langtang and Manaslu, this spring.

10. Costa Rica
Keenly awaited direct flights, launching this spring, will make it easier for travellers to explore a country that has the best-maintained national parks in Central America.
